DOP of the "Pearl of Absurd" doc (2019)

We set up a journey to the coast of the Black Sea. Odesa — European city inside post-Soviet reality. City of myths, historical challenges, and my roots. Connection with which was lost in 1917 during the October Revolution. Since that, family stories were covered with forced silence. I am the first in my family to speak this trauma outloud. Old buildings are the only connection to previous generations. But the architectural heritage is the battlefield now. There is a fight between few citizens preserving unique buildings and oligarchs rebuilding it to skyscrapers. Changes are inevitable. How will they look?

Logline
Oleksandra’s attempts to save old Odesa from gentrification lead to a personal quest — a search for traces of her great grandfather, executed by Soviets in 1938.

Short synopsis
Oleksandra loves her native city of Odesa as much as she hates it. She goes on a quest to find out how Soviet crimes of 1930s lead us to the current demolition of old Odesa. The old buildings are the only remaining witnesses of the past. KGB archives that were never meant to be seen point to the field. There, under the ground, in the mass grave, Oleksandra’s great grandfather may lie. Meanwhile, the old city fades out.
